About the role
UNOPS is recruiting multiple Field Security Advisors to support its humanitarian response and early recovery work in Gaza. These positions are part of the Jerusalem Office and play a key role in ensuring staff safety, access and operational continuity within the UN Security Management System.
The Field Security Advisors will provide technical and advisory support to strengthen operational security, coordinate with UN partners, and guide risk management for UNOPS projects in one of the world’s most complex operational environments.
Key focus areas
- Conduct security analysis and risk assessments to inform decision-making.
- Support safe access, movement coordination and operational planning.
- Advise field teams on security preparedness, incident response and staff safety.
- Develop and deliver training to build security awareness and compliance.
- Liaise with UNDSS and UN partners to maintain alignment with system-wide standards.
Requirements
Education
- Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in security management, risk management, political or social sciences, or a related field.
- A first-level degree with additional relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a Master’s degree.
Experience
- At least five years of progressively responsible experience in security management, including field-based work in complex or high-risk environments.
- Experience within the UN Security Management System is an asset.
- Proven ability to provide clear, actionable analysis and coordinate across diverse teams.
Language
- Fluency in English is required.
- Working knowledge of Arabic is considered an advantage.
Context
UNOPS supports humanitarian response and early recovery in Gaza through projects focused on infrastructure, procurement, and project management. Current work includes support for access coordination via the Security Council–mandated 2720 Mechanism and the Access Support Unit (ASU), humanitarian fuel and energy, and mine action. These posts contribute to the wider UN effort to maintain safe and effective humanitarian operations under challenging conditions.
