Description & Requirements
The SRSD will:
- Conduct risk analyses and support teams to integrate risk exposure into operational decision-making.
- Design and lead training programmes and simulation exercises on risk management and safety.
- Coach and mentor staff at field and coordination levels to build practical skills and awareness.
- Support missions in developing and implementing Security and Safety Plans, contingency measures, and incident response procedures.
- Contribute to OCG’s wider security learning initiatives and innovation projects.
- Actively promote a culture of safety across all MSF-OCG missions.
Candidate Profile
Applicants should hold a degree or certification in security or risk management, international relations, political or social sciences, or a related field. Experience in adult learning, coaching, or mentoring is an advantage.
A minimum of five years’ experience with MSF or another international NGO is essential, including at least two years in operational or field management roles within volatile humanitarian contexts.
Strong analytical and communication skills are required, along with proven ability to train and support teams under pressure. Knowledge of ISO 22361:2022 “Security and Resilience – Crisis Management” standards or comparable frameworks is an asset.
Languages: Fluent French and English; knowledge of French as spoken across Sahel-region contexts is particularly valued for communication and training relevance.
Commentary
MSF’s emphasis on both French and English fluency reflects the linguistic realities of humanitarian coordination. Professionals familiar with regional French usage in West and Central Africa are especially well placed to bridge communication and cultural nuance in field environments.
The explicit reference to ISO 22361:2022 is particularly welcome. Few humanitarian organisations ground their risk management approaches in formalised international standards, preferring self-regulation shaped by internal experience. MSF’s inclusion of ISO language signals a deliberate shift towards structured, accountable, and comparable practice — an encouraging step for the wider sector.
Conditions of Work
The position is field-based with frequent travel (70–80%) and periodic visits to headquarters in Geneva.
MSF offers a 12-month fixed-term contract, gross monthly salary of CHF 5,500 (≈ €5,200), comprehensive health insurance, and travel and accommodation coverage according to internal regulations.
